We aim to better constrain the Southwest Atlantic Ocean response to natural and human-induced Common Era climatic fluctuations. Extending the existing Southwest Atlantic climate record beyond the observational data, before and after the Industrial Revolution, will expand our ability to forecast future climate change and its impacts on a regional scale. We want to know if there has been abrupt heating and changes in the chemistry of carbonates in Southwest Atlantic waters in the last 200 years and if the spatial and temporal changes observed in the first 2,000 meters of the Southwest Atlantic water column since the pre-industrial period (1850- 1900) are in phase with other global reconstructions.
